Lyford Cay International School (LCIS) will be hosting two open house
events during the month of November. Open houses will be held at The
British Colonial Hilton on Wednesday, November 5 at 6pm and on the
school’s campus in Lyford Cay on November 29 at 2pm.
Attendees
can expect a presentation outlining the rigorous International
Baccalaureate (IB) academics, competitive athletics, creative arts
opportunities, state-of-the-art STEM (science, technology, engineering,
math) program and generous financial aid. There will also be an
opportunity for a question and answer session with the school’s
Admissions Director, Mrs. Rose Taylor, and Principal, Ms. Stacy Bobo.
LCIS
serves a diverse cohort of international and Bahamian students in
Junior Pre-K through grade 12 with outstanding results. This year, LCIS
will graduate its 10th senior class and the school boasts 100%
university matriculation rate with many graduates earning significant
scholarship offers. 65% of graduates are accepted into top tier schools
in the United States and have been accepted to universities in 14
different countries in the last three years. “We work very hard to find
the right university fit for each of our students,” said guidance
counselor Judy Reiach. “It is one of the tremendous benefits of having
small class sizes. We know exactly what our students want and we help
then work towards achieving it.” The IB Diploma Programme provides
college applicants an edge in the admissions process and many are able
to receive college credits as a result. Last year, graduates achieved a
100% pass rate on the IB Diploma compared to an international average of
79%. In addition, LCIS students who write the BGCSE exams achieved a
pass rate of A-C on 96% of exams resulting in an outstanding B+ average.
8 BGCSE subjects are offered at LCIS.
Academics are only part of
the focus at LCIS, where the nurturing environment, small class sizes
and 1:8 faculty to student ratio support curriculum and programs that
develop the whole child. Arts and music are taught in grades JPK – 9
with 10-12th grade students specializing in either art or music. Spanish
is taught starting at age three and French and German are offered in
the upper grades. Student athletes participate nationally and
internationally in soccer, swimming, basketball, volleyball, track and
field, golf, tennis and equestrian. The Elite and Developmental Sports
Program provides competitive athletes with the opportunity to receive
specialist coaching in swimming, soccer, tennis, equestrian and judo. In
addition, all LCIS students benefit from an extensive co-curricular
program with over
60 afterschool programs offered annually. Most
of these courses are available from Monday to Friday at no additional
charge to the families. “The co-curricular program is a significant
value and convenience for parents. Our parents are very satisfied with
the range of enrichment classes that their children have access to as
part of their tuition,” says Mrs. Rose Taylor, Admissions Director.
Choices include a range of options like kayaking, judo, gymnastics,
short tennis, Steel drums, Glee, Junkanoo, robotics, learn to swim and
chess.
