On Wednesday, June 24th, The Bahamas AIDS Foundation joined forces with the Miss Bahamas Organization to sell tickets for the Foundation’s annual raffle, which raises funds to offset the costs of the organization’s day to day expenses.

Representing the Miss Bahamas Organization were Miss World Bahamas, Rosetta Cartwright, and Miss Bahamas Teenager, Davette Strachan – the two reigning beauty queens worked their magic as they aided in drumming up enthusiasm and support for the raffle amongst passersby.

“I am so pleased to be here today to help raise funds for the Bahamas AIDS Foundation,” said Ms. Cartwright. “As my reign as Miss Bahamas comes to an end, I am even more excited for the incoming Miss Bahamas Universe titleholder who will have an entire year of working along with Lady Barnett and the Foundation. I am sure she will do great things with this group that helps to bring attention to such a meaningful cause."

While beauty queens have worked with the AIDS Foundation in the past, the Miss Bahamas Organization has ramped up its support for 2015; the young lady crowned Miss Bahamas Universe at the August 30th Pageant will work along with the AIDS foundation for an entire year, promoting the foundation’s work, assisting with fundraising, and making appearances to promote HIV/AIDS awareness.

Bahamas AIDS Foundation President, Camille, Lady Barnett, expressed optimism about the impact of this partnership moving forward.

"We are pleased to have the Miss Bahamas Organization partner with us. In the past we have had titleholders assist with a few of our initiatives, but we now have Miss Bahamas Universe assigned to work with us on a consistent basis. We think this will go a long way in helping to bring even more attention to the work that we do and the people we assist. The Foundation is always looking for people to assist with the many programs that we run, and having a beauty queen helping to lead that effort is a great public example for many others to notice and follow."

Echoing this sentiment was the Miss Bahamas Organization’s Director of Media Relations, Mr. Jerome Sawyer, who emphasized his organization’s commitment to using its public platforms to aid in raising funds and awareness for important local causes such as the battle against HIV/AIDS.

"The Miss Bahamas Organization is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year and we want to ensure that all three of our titleholders, Miss Bahamas Universe, Miss World Bahamas and Miss Bahamas Earth, are assigned to work along with an organization for the year of her reign. Miss Universe International supports the work of HIV /AIDS prevention and eradication globally, making it a natural fit to have our Universe title holder work with the AIDS Foundation in The Bahamas."

The annual raffle offers a series of prizes for entrants, including gift certificates for electronics, groceries, roundtrip airline tickets and a rebate to BEC. It will be drawn on August 15th at 6pm at AID on Wulff Road.
