Daronique Young; Miss Earth Bahamas 2015, has recently engaged with The Bahamas National Trust who are delighted to have her as an ambassador for coastline protection in The Bahamas. Lifting the veil surrounding stereotypes; on what it takes to be an environmentalist and a beauty queen, Miss Young has been exploring conservation personally in the field. Jumping right in, 25 year old Miss Young plunged into an underwater offshore coral restoration project despite rain and stormy weather. Using scuba diving equipment, she took a tour of the South Ocean coral restoration nursery to see how coral is grown and reared as part of an amazing project to rehabilitate The Bahamas coral reefs. Being no stranger to underwater life, Miss Young observed critically endangered corals growing in the local nursery run by The Bahamas National Trust. Her former experience as an aquarist revealed her obvious passion for marine protection and her excitement was peaked when swimming through the coral trees at 30 ft under the sea. Miss Young attended The College of The Bahamas and graduated with a BA in Tourism Management, which has given her a very broad range of skills which she hopes will provide her with a good footing for her business endeavours. Having just returned from China battling against 119 competitors for the Miss Earth global title, she continues to focus on the environment and hopes to reach out to Bahamians both young and old to spread awareness of climate change, fisheries, and marine protection, before attending the Miss Earth Finale in Vienna, Austria on December 5th this year.
