Freeport, Grand Bahama - Years ago in the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, Bahamians lived consciously by what is called, "The Golden Rule." While the actual words "Golden Rule" are not found in the Bible, the title was ascribed to Jesus' teaching during the 16th-17th centuries. What we call the Golden Rule refers to Matthew 7:12: "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." Jesus' Golden Rule gives us a standard by which ordinarily selfish people can determine their actions: actively treat others the way they themselves like to be treated.

Recently a local Pastor, Eddie Victor, was recognized by a global organization with the Golden Rule International Award for his unselfish acts toward people within his community. This International event was hosted by Ambassador Clyde Rivers CEO of I Change Nations and Executive Director of the Interfaith Peace-Building Initiative. The award ceremony took place in the capital of the United States, Washington D.C. on Friday November 13, 2015 at 6 pm at the Hilton Garden Inn -U.S. Capitol on 1225 First Street NE. Attending this event were Honorees from over 30 nations with over 100 persons receiving awards.

Pastor Victor’s work in the Bahamas involves numerous initiatives & outreaches that impact the lives of people across Grand Bahama. His activities involves Community Activism, Food & Cloth Distribution, Teaching & Training Seminars, Leadership Conferences, Economic & Social Development Programs and Religious Tourism. One activity of many projects which drew attention to the awarding organization was Pastor Victor's partnership with Samaritan's Feet International; when he organized free shoe drives for children on Grand Bahama Island and in New Providence. The shoe drives provided over one thousand & two hundred pairs of brand new shoes for school age children. Also, the distribution included the support of participants who compassionately washed the feet of children who came, prayed for them, and placed brand new shoes on their feet.

The Golden Rule Award is an organization supported by the United Nations, the European Union, and the African Union and is officially proclaimed in 120 Nations across the globe. This international organization is directed by the ambassador at large for the Republic of Burundi, Dr. Clyde Rivers. Ambassador Rivers is the Representative for the Golden Rule International and the Interfaith Peace-Building Initiative, North American Division to the United Nations – New York. Interfaith Peace-Building Initiative is affiliated with the Department of Public Record (DPR) – United Nations as well as affiliated with the United Religious Initiative (URI), an Interfaith Peace organization.

The Golden Rule International Award is now established in 120 nations of the world. This organization seeks out top achievers that live the Golden Rule in their everyday life. This is a new global ethic that the leadership of the Golden Rule International Award, Patron, former President of Ethiopia, Girma Wolde and Ambassador Mussie Hailu have embraced and are promoting globally.

Pastor Eddie Victor, who has spearheaded a number of humanitarian activities, and who stands at the forefront of the Coalition of Concerned Citizens on Grand Bahama Island is the first Grand Bahamian to receive this award and the second Bahamian in the Bahamas. In receiving this award Pastor Victor was also appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador of the Golden Rule for the Bahamas. He is the Pastor of Living Water Assembly of God, located in the city of Freeport, on Grand Bahama Island.
