RBC Royal Bank Client Invitational Golf Tournament Raises Thousands for The Salvation Army Women’s Shelter

The Salvation Army was presented with a cheque for $30,000.00 representing the total proceeds from the 2015 RBC Client Invitational Golf Tournament. In five years, RBC has donated $116,000 to five local charities through the tournament.

Nassau, Bahamas - RBC Royal Bank held its 5th Annual RBC Client Appreciation & Invitational Golf Tournament in partnership with Royal Fidelity on March 10, 2015. Participants, including RBC clients and business partners, enjoyed a day of exciting golf and friendly competition on the Ocean Club Golf Course. RBC established the tournament as a way to thank RBC clients and make a significant impact on local charities. RBC Royal Bank, Royal Fidelity and tournament participants scored a hole-in-one at this year’s tournament as it raised $30,000 for The Salvation Army Women’s Shelter.

Immediately following the tournament, participants were hosted to an Awards Cocktail and Dinner. Jennifer Tory, Group Head, Personal and Commercial Banking, Toronto Head Office and Kirk Dudtschak, Executive Vice President & Head, RBC Caribbean Banking were on hand to express RBC’s appreciation to each participant for attending the event and for their business and support. Since the tournament’s inception, RBC has donated $116,000 to local charities. Each year a local charity is chosen based on the focus of the charity’s work and its ability to strengthen the social fabric of The Bahamas. All proceeds from this year’s tournament will go directly to The Salvation Army Women’s Shelter.

“The RBC Client Appreciation & Invitational Golf Tournament is about golf, and people having fun. But more importantly, the main reason is about raising money to support the local community where we live and work,” said Mr. Brian Knowles, Vice President Corporate Banking, The Bahamas, Cayman and Turks & Caicos Islands. He continued: “This event is one that we look forward to hosting each year. The event exemplifies RBC’s commitment to our clients and our commitment to building our communities. I would like to thank all participants for making our 5th Annual RBC Client Appreciation & Invitational Golf Tournament a success.”

Major Lester Ferguson, Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army received the $30,000 donation on behalf of The Salvation Army Women’s Shelter during the Awards Cocktail and Dinner. For over 40 years The Salvation Army Women’s Shelter has provided a haven for hundreds of displaced, battered and abused women. The facility accommodates women, with their dependent children, in a safe, caring environment, providing them with the tools and access to services which will help them cope with tragedy and rebuild their lives.

Major Ferguson expressed his gratitude on behalf of The Salvation Army for the generous donation. He stated: “The Salvation Army is extremely grateful to RBC for its contribution towards our Women’s Shelter Relocation Project. RBC's gift to our Women's Shelter project speaks volumes about their commitment to community development, and especially the care and development of women as they go through one of the most difficult times in their lives.”

The Honourable Minister Allyson Maynard-Gibson, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs and leader of government business in the Senate of The Bahamas, brought remarks on behalf of The Honourable Minister, Melanie Griffin, Minister of Social Services, who was off the island on government business. Minister Maynard-Gibson applauded RBC for its focus on corporate social responsibility and its contributions that have spanned its more than 100 years of operations in The Bahamas.

This year the RBC Client Appreciation & Invitational Golf Tournament drew more than 70 golfers. Teams competed in a four-man scramble format with awards going to the first through third place team finishers, the longest drive, and closest to the pin winners. During the Awards Cocktail, winners were announced in seven categories:
