RBDF's Harbour Unit conducts operational exercise

RBDF Marines assigned to the Harbour Patrol Unit conducting a search and inspection of a vessel during a recent joint operation with the Port Department.


The Harbour Patrol Unit of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force took part in a joint operation along with Port Authority Officers on July 13, 2018.

Under command of Senior Lieutenant Andrew Bowe, the Marines conducted a boarding and search operations within the Prince George Wharf and Paradise Island areas. As a result, Ferry boats, Charter boats, Parasailing Boats, Jet Skis and their operators were checked to ensure that the standard of Ship's Safety infractions were met and all waterborne craft’s, License/ Registration and Insurance were current.

The Defence Force team boarded a total of 23 vessels, with 7 of them being pulled over because of expired licenses or incomplete documents. Vessels were released after presentation of proper documents. Operators were cautioned and reminded to always have current operation documentation.

The Defence Force Harbour Unit conducts Harbour and beach patrols around Nassau, Paradise Island, and outlying cays. The Unit also provides water side security for cruise ships in Nassau Harbour and works jointly with the marine divisions of the Police Force and Customs Department.
