Bimini, Bahamas – Bimini’s victims of Hurricane Irma who received catastrophic damage to their homes from the storm started the New Year on a high note, thanks to a generous gift from Resorts World Bimini (RWB).  Thousands of dollars worth of plywood, felt, shingles, nails, and roofing cement were donated to NEMA for the residents of North Bimini, several of whom lost their roofs or experienced significant roof damage as storm-related tornadoes touched down on the small island.

Presenting the supplies was RWB President Missy Lawrence and other executives of the resort.

“As the largest corporate citizen on the island, we are thought it only fitting to assist those in need after this natural disaster,” she said.  “By donating these roofing supplies, we hope to help restore normalcy to the lives of Biminites who were displaced by the storm.”

Receiving the donation on behalf of NEMA, Island Administrator Kate Williamson said the donation could not have come at a better time.

“We are grateful for NGOs such as Resorts World Bimini for making an effort to partner with us to meet the needs of the people who would not have been able to get help otherwise,” she said.  “The donation was a great end of year gift to the island which is much appreciated.”

Also on hand for the presentation was Local Government Chief Councilor Robbie Smith.

“The community responded well to the generation donation,” he said.  “We would like to thank Resorts World Bimini for their effort to give back to the community on behalf of the many people who were helped by their generosity.”

The purchase of the supplies was made possible in part by proceeds raised at RWB’s recently held Driftwood Beach Festival at Luna Beach Club.  The beach festival attracted professional athletes from The National Volleyball League who conducted exhibitions and clinics for all attendees followed by unforgettable dinners, magical DJ’s, and live performances Javier Garcia and the Clement Aubrey & The Reggae Allstars.
