On Saturday, February 17th, 2018, Rev. Dr. C. B. Moss was awarded The 2017 Lady Sassoon Golden Heart Award by The Sir Victor Sassoon (Bahamas) Heart Foundation. Service to others has been a way of life for the Rev. Dr. C. B. Moss. It is when he is assisting someone, or contributing to a worthy cause that he feels most fulfilled. He was born in the remote Island of Acklins and shortly thereafter he moved to New Providence with his family, settling in Grants Town. He attended several schools in New Providence, graduating from the Eastern Secondary School with B. J. C. Certificates in 1963. He subsequently earned a Diploma in Banking from the Bahamas Institute of Bankers: an Associates of Arts in Business Administration, Banking and Finance from the College of the Bahamas; a certificate in business studies from Lindsey Hopkins Institute in Miami Florida; a certificate in Advance Management from the University of Miami. He also received a Certificate in Christian Education from the Bahamas Baptist Bible Institute, a Bachelor of Theology Degree from the Trinity Theological Seminary, Illinois, U. S. A., and a Doctor of Divinity Degree (Hon.) from the Virginia Theological Seminary, Virginia, U. S. A. A Banker by profession, he served in several management capacities at local banks for almost 25 years. He is currently the President and C. E. O. of C. B. Moss and Associates Consultants.
He grew up in a Christian home and he accepted Christ as Lord in 1978. He received the call to the Gospel Ministry and was ordained as a Minister in January 1981. In January 1983, Mount Olive Baptist Church was organized with him as Pastor, where he still serves. Over the years He contributed to the national development through his involvement in many Professional, Religious, Charitable, Political, Fraternal, Cultural, and Community Organizations. These organizations include the Bahamas Kidney Foundation; Bahamas Chamber of Commerce; Bahamas Amateur Athletic Association; Acklins Trade and Development Association; Progressive Liberal Party; and Bahamas National Trust. He also served as President, Scout Association of The Bahamas, Grand Master, International Free and Accepted Modern Masons; Executive Director Hands Across the Bahamas; Chairman, Coalition to Save Clifton; President, Bahamas Christian Council, and Vice-President of the Bahamas Senate. He is currently a member of the National Heroes Committee, Bahamas Real Estate Association, Rotary Club of West Nassau, the Bain Grants Town Advancement Association, and Bahamas Against Crime.
In early 1977, he had his first contact with the Bahamas Red Cross Society. While living in Freeport, Grand Bahama, he was asked to organize an “old fashioned Nassau” parade to promote that year’s Fair in Freeport. The entire Island was mobilized and the largest parade in the history of the Island was held, contributing to a very successful Fair. Later in the year the bank transferred him back to Nassau. He accepted an invitation by the National Red Cross to join the Management Committee and shortly thereafter the Executive Committee. Late in 1978 he was appointed President, a position he held for six years. During his Presidency, the Bahamas Red Cross Society became actively involved in the Regional and International world of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The work of the local Society was promoted through the League of Societies and also the International Committee of the Red Cross, and several recognitions were received. Also during this period, Red Cross Centres were established or expanded on most of the Family Islands and Fairs were held on many of them, thanks to a dynamic Fund-Raising Committee under the Chair of Dame Margueritte Pindling. The Present National Headquarters on J. F. K Drive was constructed and the Grand Bahama Regional Headquarters was acquired. The Red Cross Newspaper was also published and distributed widely. One of his greatest challenges was simultaneously chairing the National Fair Committee for awhile. It is with deep gratitude that he accepts this special recognition from the Society which continues to make a great contribution to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. He has frequently stated and still maintains that his involvement with the Bahamas Red Cross Society has been a very exciting and rewarding experience that he still cherishes to this date. It was made even more special by the dedication and commitment of the fine persons, both Staff and Volunteers, of the society. The atmosphere was one of “family” and made it a wonderful place to serve. These persons include Mrs. Lottie V. Tynes, Past Director General; the late Mrs. Marina Glinton, Past Director General; Mrs. Dorothy King; Past Deputy Director General. Dame Margueritte Pindling; and Mr. Ken Lam. He also extends thanks to Commonwealth Bank, his employer at the time, his friends and family, especially his dear wife Francisca and children for their encouragement and support during this extended period. BUSINESS HE BEGAN HIS WORKING CAREER AS AN OFFICER OF HER MAJESTY CUSTOMS DEPARTMENT IN 1963. UPON RETURNING FROM STUDIES ABROAD HIS CAREER AS A BANKER BEGAN WHEN HE JOINED COMMONWEALTH BANK IN 1971; HE SERVED THERE UNTIL 1987, ATTAINING THE POSITION OF GENERAL MANAGER....
