Ride for Hope Bahamas appoints its first Administrator

Ride for Hope (RFH) Bahamas announced today the appointment of its first Administrator, Alicia Wallace from Nassau, Bahamas. A 2009 graduate of St Mary’s University, Nova Scotia, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce/Economics, Alicia brings to the Ride for Hope wonderful enthusiasm and demonstrated experience in the areas of not‐for‐profit work, administration, planning and budget management.

Dedicated and self‐motivated, Alicia impressed RFH interviewers with the manner in which she has already used her energy and talents to help make the world a better place. While pursuing her undergraduate degree Alicia single‐handedly planned and coordinated a summer day care camp, funding the business by way of personal savings, a small loan, and prize money she had won from a business plan competition. The highly successful program employed 8 teachers and ran year‐to‐year on budget.

Also as a college student Alicia worked for the Canadian social system’s Phoenix Youth Program and was a live‐in supervisor and mentor for young women. With responsibilities beyond many of her peers, Alicia ensured her residents, some of whom were older than she, lived healthy life‐styles, followed productive day‐to‐day schedules, and met program expectations by attending meetings, program nights, school and/or work, and house meetings.A volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society (Nova Scotia), Junior Achievement (Nova Scotia and New Providence), and St Mary’s University Career Development Center, Alicia also found the time to excel in her studies. She was nominated for Student Entrepreneur of the Year, won the Best Part Time Business Idea Award, and the Rev. JJ Hennessey SJ Medallion Award.

The Ride for Hope was established six years ago to build hope and resources needed to fight cancer in The Bahamas. Its flagship event, held in Eleuthera each Spring, has grown into one of the country’s most respected and successful charitable fund raisers. Collectively over 1,500 participants have cycled more than 45,000 miles and raised nearly $1.6 million since inception in 2006.

As Administrator, Alicia will play a big role in the many months of advance planning that go into the Ride for Hope. She will also provide year‐round support and over‐sight to the growing number of programs receiving RFH funding. Through the generosity of long‐standing corporate sponsors, Alicia’s office is located at the law firm of Holowesko Pyfrom Fletcher in the Templeton Building, West Bay Street.

Ride for Hope Bahamas is a registered Charity in The Commonwealth of The Bahamas. It was established for the purpose of raising money to support initiatives related to health, wellness and human development in The Bahamas. Ride for Hope’s designated focus is cancer.
