“ “Home Run Derby” Event Scheduled For This Saturday, January 6th! Nassau, Bahamas - As one of the best and brightest baseball players coming out of The Bahamas, it would be easy for 21-year-old Todd Isaacs, Jr. to be content focusing on his minor league baseball career with the Cleveland Indians and enjoying his status as a hometown celebrity. Instead, Isaacs is determined to give back to his community and make a difference. “Home Run Derby in Paradise” scheduled for this Saturday, January 6, 2018 starting at Noon on Montague Beach is Isaac’s first community-wide initiative to help him achieve that goal. The brainchild of Isaacs, Lucius Fox and a few other fellow Bahamian baseball players, “Home Run Derby in Paradise” will give Bahamians an opportunity to both connect with professional Bahamian baseball players competing for the title of Home Run King and meet well-known international players. Entry to the event is free to the community but through sponsorships and community support, will achieve the joint goal of elevating youth awareness of baseball and raising funds to aid needed cancer research in The Bahamas. “Home Run Derby is an opportunity for me to give back to the country that has given so much to me,” shared Isaacs, who is the lead organizer for the event. “At a time when the development of our nation’s youth is critical, baseball can have a positive influence and create opportunities for young men who have few options. When students come out and see how many Bahamians are changing their lives through professional baseball, they can be inspired to know that they can change their lives too.” Besides interacting with 16 talented Bahamians who are making an impact in the minor leagues, those attending the event will also have an opportunity to see four international players including: · Bo Bichette (Toronto Blue Jays) · Nick Gordon (Minnesota Twins) · Juan Hillman (Cleveland Indians) · Triston McKenzie (Cleveland Indians) Most importantly, those attending “Home Run Derby” will be able to help raise funds for needed cancer research in The Bahamas. Although entry into the event is free, attendees are encouraged to come out prepared to buy delicious Bahamian food and to enjoy the 50/50 raffle. Raffle winners will receive 50 % of the raffle with the other 50% going directly to aid cancer research in The Bahamas. When asked why he chose to focus on cancer research, Isaacs stated, “Sadly, cancer is rampant in The Bahamas. There’s no family that hasn’t been affected by this devastating disease. Like other players, I have lost too many people who impacted my life to cancer. I want to do what I can to make a difference.” In addition to welcoming the opportunity to support cancer research in The Bahamas, Isaacs is excited about the impact that team sports can have on the Bahamian youth. “If there’s one thing I can tell children, it’s that sports gives you a competitive edge no matter if your goal is to become involved in professional sports or in the business world.” “Sports teaches discipline and provides an avenue for self-improvement. It’s something that all Bahamians can benefit from.
