Students receive early Christmas gifts and smiles at the Seahorse Institute

Baha Mar Foundation Helps Bring Christmas Cheer to Students With Developmental Delays

NASSAU, The Bahamas – Students and teachers of the Seahorse Institute got an early Christmas present, as Baha Mar’s resident Santa Claus spread holiday cheer throughout the school today.

Senior Vice President of Resort Operations, Niklaus Leuenberger, greeted students as Santa Claus, bearing gifts selected by their parents.

“This is what Christmas is about – bringing joy to others. The children’s smiles remind us of all that is good in the world,” Leuenberger said.

The excitement was visible on the faces of the students, ages 2-22, as well as their parents and instructors.

Dr. Michelle Major, Director of the Seahorse Institute explained, “For children with autism and other developmental delays, it can be hard for them to wait in line to see Santa or deal with the crowds at shopping malls this time of year. Baha Mar is giving the children and their families the gift of a wonderful Christmas experience by bringing Santa to the Seahorse Institute. The children and staff were so excited to see Santa and we hope this is a memory they will always cherish.”

The Seahorse Institute provides intensive research-based and data driven interventions for children, adolescents and adults with autism and other developmental delays.

This holiday season the BELIEVE Foundation is also working along with the Salvation Army and has pledged to match the first $10,000 raised through the annual Red Kettle campaign.

The BELIEVE Foundation was founded in February 2013 with the drive to champion sustainable conservation efforts, celebrate diverse cultural traditions and artistic expression in The Bahamas, while strengthening the community through helping those in need.
