Nassau, The Bahamas -
Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA) President Mike Sands and executives paid a courtesy call on Barry Malcolm, Managing Director, Scotiabank (Bahamas) Ltd. to discuss plans for the 2010 Scotiabank National High School Track & Field Championships scheduled for March 11th - 13th at the Thomas A. Robinson Stadium.
“Building on our existing partnership with the BAAA and expanding our support of youth development within The Bahamas, Scotiabank is delighted to sponsor this premier track and field event. We affirm our continuing commitment to the community in which we live and that we serve,” said Managing Director, Barry Malcolm.
In 2008, Scotiabank partnered with the BAAA in hosting the very successful Bound for Bejing Olympic Trials. “We are excited to sponsor this year’s High School Nationals. We at Scotiabank are committed to corporate and personal excellence. We find it fitting to join hands with the BAAA in support of their outstanding development of our youth to ensure, in this instance, the continued growth, success, and excellence of Bahamian athletics.”
BAAA President Mike Sands expressed, "The BAAA is indeed very pleased and grateful that Scotiabank has once again agreed to partner with the BAAA in support of their development program where the focus is on our junior athletes.
The BAAA High School Nationals is a national event and the primary junior competition which brings athletes from the public and private schools in New Providence and the Family Islands, to compete for divisional titles. It is the only time that some Family Island athletes in particular, have the opportunity to compete outside of their community to qualify for the Carifta Games and other international championships. Scotiabank's contribution is used to assist the BAAA in providing resources, supplies and accessories essential to ensure the event is and successful."
Malcolm encouraged Bahamians to support the work of the BAAA in the development of track and field in the country and its investment in Bahamian youth and to attend the upcoming Scotiabank National High School Track & Field Championships.
