Sun Oil Remains committed to community

Nassau, Bahamas - Despite the challenges of the current economic climate and ongoing COVID crisis, Sun Oil Limited, a subsidiary of FOCOL Holdings, continues to stand alongside its customers and the local community as a responsible and concerned corporate citizen.

“Sun Oil Limited remains committed to fueling growth for people through our investment in the communities that we serve,” explained Rufus Johnson Jr., Marketing Manager for Sun Oil Limited. “Over the past year, we have continued to give back to our community partners through donations and corporate sponsorships.”

One of the philanthropic partnerships that Sun Oil has been proud to maintain is its alliance with Hands for Hunger, a non-profit food rescue and distribution organization. Hands for Hunger has been working to ensure that no one goes hungry in The Bahamas since 2008 and has continued serving the community throughout the current pandemic.

“We recognize our responsibility to take an active role in ensuring that philanthropic and youth development programmes continue despite the challenges of the current environment,” Johnson confirmed. While many of the usual annual fundraising events have been cancelled over the last year, Sun Oil has continued to make donations to local charities, civil society and youth organizations.

Keisha Ellis, Executive Director for Hands For Hunger, expressed gratitude, "Shell has been a consistent supporter of Hands for Hunger for over 10 years. Through their generous donation of fuel, they help keep our trucks on the road collecting and delivering food. Our trucks are the backbone of our operation and we're proud to have them powered by Shell."

This summer, Sun Oil teamed up with the Bahamas Aquatics Federation to sponsor the 49th National Swimming Championships, which took place at the Betty Kelly Kenning National Swim Complex.

The meet, which saw both top local and regional swimmers competing, was a FINA (International Swimming Federation) sanctioned meet for the 2021 Olympics Games and was the last qualifier for the Tokyo Olympics.

Rochelle Bastian, Public Relations Officer for the Bahamas Aquatics Federation, expressed gratitude to Sun Oil, “We appreciate your partnership as we build and celebrate the sport of swimming in The Bahamas and we look forward to your support as we move into our 2022 aquatic events.”

Over the summer, Sun Oil also supported the BAAA Nationals Track & Field Championships, which were hosted June 25-27 at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium. This event was also an important Olympic qualifier for Team Bahamas.
