Last month, Sunryse Information Management teamed up with the Bahamas Sickle Cell Association to spread awareness and raise funds during the company’s 11th Annual Shred Day event. Members of the general public were encouraged to bring personal documents to be shredded free of charge at the Western Esplanade. In turn, the country’s largest document management company committed to donating $1 for every 10lbs of shredded paper to the Association. Using a mobile destruction unit, technicians from Sunryse Information Management shred just under 7,500 lbs of confidential files and documents during the 11-hour period. Participants in Shred Day were able to view the shredding process in real time via a CCTV on the vehicle. They were also able to learn more about the outreach initiatives of the Bahamas Sickle Cell Association and make additional donations to the cause. This year, the company’s founders, Chris and Nadine Sawyer, made the decision to donate all proceeds from Sunryse Shred Day to the organization. Their daughter, Alisa is a Sickle Cell Anemia fighter. The Bahamas Sickle Cell Association provides members with funding for medical procedures, sponsors attendance to international summer camps and provides care packages to its membership. To date, an estimated 57,500 lbs of confidential records have been shredded at Shred Day events and approximately $25,000 has been donated to local non-profit organizations as a result of the initiative. This year’s event sponsors included National Workers Co-Operative Credit Union, Caribbean Bottling and Limeade.
