September 12th, 2014, Toastmasters International, Bahamas Division I, Area 93 held its annual Humorous Speech & Evaluation Competition at the Pelican Bay Hotel.

The clubs in Area 93 include Freeport Eagles Club 1425, Club Destiny 839960, Abaco Lighthouse Beamers Club 1314025, Abaco Bahamas Union of Teachers Pacesetters Club 3207641 and Bank of The Bahamas Eagles Club 1342880, New Providence.

The Humorous Speech & Evaluation Competition is one of the featured annual events that occur in the Toastmasters International calendar. All clubs are encouraged to hold competitions. The winners of the clubs’ competitions go on to participate in their area competitions. The winners of the area competitions compete in their division competitions and the winners from the division competitions go on to their respective district competitions. The initiative is to see which Toastmaster (TM) emerges as the most witty with their humorous speeches and most constructive and creative in their speech evaluations.

This year, TM Godfrey Rahming, Vice President of Education of Freeport Eagles Club 1425, emerged as the most witty in Area 93, winning the Humorous Speech Competition. Winning the Evaluation Competition was TM Ray-don Poitier from the Abaco Lighthouse Beamers Club.

TM Rahming travels to New Providence to represent Area 93 at the Bahamas Division I Competition to be held Friday, October 3rd. Talents will be rivaling as the winners from the fiveareas in Bahamas Division I come together in competition. The winners of Division I will then represent the division at District 47’s competition in West Palm Beach, FL in November. District 47 includes clubs from South-East Florida and The Bahamas.

Last year, Immediate Past President of Freeport Eagles Club 1425, TM Andre Dean, won Division I’s Humorous speech competition and went on to compete in District 47’s competition in Fort Lauderdale, FL. With a very close race at hand, he returned to Grand Bahama with the second place trophy. He has set the bar for TM Rahming and other members of Freeport Eagles to follow.

President Linda Carroll-Strachan, officers and members of Freeport Eagles, Toastmasters Club 1425, wish TM Godfrey Rahming much success as he goes on to represent us in New Providence. Continue to soar like an Eagle!
