The women of Zonta clubs of The Bahamas have not only been busy in the community with the 16 Days of Activism to End Violence Against Women and Girls, they have taken their message to the Upper and Lower House. Governor General C A Smith, Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis, and Senators and parliamentarian all heard from Zontians about the importance of eradicating violence in the country.
Today is International Human Rights Day. On Saturday, December 14, Contains invite the general public to come out to Fox Hill Park from 2-6pm and bring new or gently-used shoes for the "Walk in My Shoes" campaign. Zontians will bring the park alive with the colour orange as a part of the #orangetheworld campaign. They will interact with residents, sharing knowledge and information, encouraging them to help to end violence in their community. The government has promised to work towards ending gender-based violence by 2030. The Trade Union Congress Women's Association (led by Sharon Martin) teamed up with Zonta to encourage the government to ratify C-190 - the International Labour Organisation's (ILO's) convention to end violence and harassment in the work place. This makes Zonta's 7th year of continuous advocacy, led by National Campaign Chair, Marisa Mason-Smith.
