5th Annual Sidney Poitier Film Festival: February 20-23

Nassau, Bahamas - The College of The Bahamas School of English Studies presents the 5th Annual Sidney Poitier Film Festival, 20-23 February 2014 in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of The College of The Bahamas with a specific focus on Education.

Among the anticipated highlights are the premiere of When a Man Dreams Dreams, a Bahamian film on the life of cultural icon, educator and attorney the late Winston V. Saunders. Dr Gail Saunders and Director Philip Burrows will attend the screening, following there will be a question and answer period. On Saturday, February 22nd, the audience will screen films produced by College of The Bahamas students. A reception will follow.

The festival includes showings of 15 films starring Sir Sidney Poitier. Attendees will view old and new films, dramas and documentaries, all focusing on the theme of Education. All films are screened free to the public and will be viewed at The College of The Bahamas, Oakes Field Campus.

In addition to the screenings, the festival offers 3 workshops: in writing for film, acting, and film editing. There will also be an opening panel discussion on "40 Years of Film in The Bahamas" and a roundtable discussion on "The Role of Film Criticism and the Critic in The Bahamas".
