United Kingdom - Just one week after sweeping the Grammy's in America with 6 wins in 6 nomimations, Adele's multi-platinum album '21' has been named MasterCard British Album of the Year at the 2012 BRIT Awards. The awards took place on February 21st and was the 32nd edition of the British Phonographic Industry's annual pop music awards.
Her second album, which topped charts around the world when it was
released in 2011, spawned the singles 'Rolling In The Deep', 'Set Fire
To The Rain' and of course - 'Someone Like You'. The album has sold over
17 million copies worldwide.
Adele took the award ahead of fellow nominated albums 'Mylo Xyloto'
by Coldplay, '+' by Ed Sheeran', 'Ceremonials' by Florence & The
Machine and 'Let England Shake' by PJ Harvey.
Adele has been nominated in three categories, and her stiffest competition for the really big one, British Album of the Year, comes from two other compelling female artists, PJ Harvey and Florence Welch (of Florence & The Machine).
