A New Indie Film Platform Where Everyone Has a Voice

Founded in April 2015, Bahamian entrepreneur and filmmaker Jarrod A Knowles, has created a 'virtual' film & music video festival.

According to Knowles, who is the president and founder of, WideScreen Film & Music Video Festival returning in March and held in Miami, Florida, “I wanted to take the 'festival experience,' and put it online. Everyone deserves a chance at having their artistic creations be seen and heard.”

With the typical festival experience, many films are submitted, but few are chosen to be screened. Knowles acknowledged that only a limited number of projects actually get shown at any said festival, so he decided to make the experience virtual, and give users and audiences the power to judge, rate, and critique films and art as they see fit.

“Art is subjective, which means that while one may feel that a particular art piece is junk, the other may find it to be treasure," said Knowles. "And, at the end of the day, both opinions matter and deserve to be heard and expressed. Everyone deserves a voice... IndieWise gives them that voice.”

Knowles sought out Bahamian web developer and tech genius, Jerez G. Bain to develop IndieWise which will be launched on the world wide web, Apple Store, and Google Play Store this March. Bain is the developer of the mobile app, “TableTops” which provides ideal restaurant options throughout The Bahamas. Knowles has known Bain for some time, they attended the same high school, and previously worked for the same company. Today, they share a common vision for success and the revolution of a growing and thriving industry.

“IndieWise” with the catchy slogan, “You Be The Judge” will allow the user to both critique and interact with other filmmakers / artists / critics, for the purpose of the advancement and unification of the industry as a whole, as well as the inspiration of the creation and distribution of art.

“Truthfully speaking, Indie Film is the future… so get into it,” said Knowles.

As a motivational speaker and entrepreneur, Knowles loves to empower people. He is looking forward to witnessing how it will revolutionize the industry.

“IndieWise is a product that can be enjoyed by everyone. Even if you are not a filmmaker, artist, or critic, you are still welcome to come and enjoy creative content from over 100 countries,” said Knowles.

The user will be able to access the website and mobile app at no cost! Filmmakers and artists can upload their projects hassle-free, and shortly there-after, critics, enthusiasts, and fellow filmmakers have the option to go to work on rating, critiquing and objectively judging such projects, and providing feedback, according to acting performance, direction, sound, music, pacing, editing, etc. The ratings will then collectively produce what is known as the user’s “IndieWise Average.”

Bear in mind, even if you don’t wish to be a critic, you are still welcome to come and enjoy great content at your leisure, free of charge! As a user, upon signing up, you have the option to customize your profile and specify your preferences, according to which type of project and genre, etc. tickle your fancy.

Additionally, with IndieWise, the option exists to uniquely express your feeling about a particular project, using an Emoticon, for eg. happy, sad, hyped, bored, sick, thrilled, angry, etc. The aforementioned are just a few of the emotions you can use to express how a particular piece made you feel, after watching it.

You can also share to all popular social media platforms, and IndieWise presents a new and unique feature known as “Two Thumbs Up” and “Two Thumbs Down” to represent your liking or disliking of a particular project.

Last, but not least, what Knowles anticipates will be the favorite aspect of IndieWise, is the IndieWise Awards! Essentially, as a user, if your project is nominated for the exact same award, by at least 5 different users, you are eligible to be awarded with a Win in that category during the month-end Virtual Award Show, and you'll receive an official IndieWise Laurel via e-mail as evidence of your win, which you may add to your project’s poster, profile, portfolio, etc. Filmmakers and artists will especially love this aspect of IndieWise, because awards and recognition is indeed one of the main driving forces behind an artist’s journey.

IndieWise equals empowerment and progress for everyone. This website and mobile app shall ultimately change the independent film world forever, and provide exposure and a voice for everyone who wishes to express their art. Currently boasting thousands of subscribers from over 100 countries, and growing rapidly on a daily basis, IndieWise will revolutionize, innovate, and inspire, while ultimately enhancing the creative mind.

IndieWise launches March 2016 on the Web, Apple Store, and Google Play Store.
