Montego Bay, Jamaica - R&B
crooners Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant, the members of
Heads of State, are set to deliver memorable performances at the 2012
JAMAICA Jazz and Blues Festival – The Art of Muisc. Patrons at the
venue are also guaranteed spellbound performance from Damian Marley who
is billed to perform on
Saturday, January 28 at the Trelawney Stadium.
While fans can expect the trio singing classic New Edition songs such as
Cool It Now,
If It Isn't Love and
Mr Telephone Man,
fans can also expect to see the three singers showcase their solo
works. Cee Lo, the Temptations Review ft. Dennis Edwards, Earl Klugh
and Destra Garcia are also featured.
The renowned Bobby Brown began his solo career in 1986 with the album
King of Stage. It was his second album,
Don't Be Cruel
in 1988 that propelled him to super stardom. Working with the
writing/producing team of L.A. Reid and Babyface, as well as Teddy
Riley,
Don't Be Cruel spawned five Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 singles:
Every Little Step,
Rock Wit' Cha,
My Prerogative and the very popular
Roni.
The album eventually sold seven times Platinum and was the 33rd
best-selling album of the 1980s. Notably Brown also has a Jamaican
connection having been featured on Damian Marley's hit song
Beautiful from the
Welcome to Jamrock album.
Tresvant left New Edition in
1989 signed with MCA Records and worked with producers Jimmy Jam and
Terry Lewis. The producers wrote the song
Sensitivity for him,
which hit #1 on the R&B charts, #4 on the Hot 100 and sold gold.
His self-titled album released in 1990 sold platinum as well, topping
the R&B charts. The album scored two more hits with
Stone Cold Gentleman reaching and
Do What I Gotta Do. Tresvant appeared in the movie House Party 2 in 1991, performing the song
Yo Baby Yo from the soundtrack. The following year, he scored his hit,
Money Can't Buy You Love. He soon followed up with two albums
It's Goin' Down and
Rizz-Wa-Faire.
Unlike the others Johnny Gill
started off as a solo act before being recruited for the New Edition
band. In the early 80s he released a self-titled album for Atlantic
Records featuring the hit,
Super Love. On this album, Gill
played guitar, bass, bongos, and drums in addition to performing lead
and background vocals. Gill then teamed up with singer Stacy Lattisaw
for a duet album, which featured the song
Perfect Combination. A second album on Atlantic Records gave him the hit
Half Crazy. In 1990 he released his second self-titled album which included the hits
My, My, My, Rub You the Right Way, and more.
These three amazing singers
will be at the JAMAICA Jazz and Blues Festival to wrap their sweet
voices around the audience with truly a large catalogue of
international hits.
Popular New Edition members
Brown, Tresvant and Gill formed Heads of State at the end of 2008. New
Edition, which consists of Ralph Tresvant, Bobby Brown, Michael Bivins,
Ricky Bell, and Ronnie Devoe are sensations in the pop world with hits
like
Is This the End,
Candy Girl,
Can You Stand The Rain
and the list goes on. They were the pioneers of the boy band movement
of the 1980s and 1990s that led the way for groups: New Kids on the
Block, Boyz II Men, Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync. They maintained their
soul status into the early ‘90s but soon disbanded. In 2008 however
Brown revealed that Heads of State was formed and working on new
material.
