Atlanta, Georgia - Fresh off a powerful performance at the inaugural Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival, culture keeper, music maker and self-professed “rake ‘n’ scrape general” Stileet is headed back to Atlanta for the city’s largest Caribbean heritage celebration.

Stileet, who rocked the stage with the indigenous Bahamian sound of “rake ‘n’ scrape”, had previously performed at the 2013 Atlanta Caribbean Carnival. The artist is excited to take what he considers a dying genre of music to the masses and he’ll be doing that to his hit song ‘Da Party Animal’.

“I am da party animal!” Stileet declares. “I am da party animal and I am coming to mash up the party and Atlanta Caribbean carnival! I’m very excited to come back and to bring this song to Atlanta and introduce rake ‘n’ scrape to those who haven’t heard it.”

“Rake ‘n’ scrape is an acquired taste,” he explained. “It’s not dancehall, it’s not soca and it’s something you certainly won’t hear in the United States. The Caribbean has had many successful talents establish themselves. We even have Grammy winning artists like the T-Connection and BahaMen from The Bahamas, but their sound is not the old style rake ‘n’ scrape that can only be found in The Bahamas. I am someone who is focused on taking this sound to the world so that whoever hears it will make the connection to my country.”

The patriotic musician known for his high energy split kicks, “bam bam bam” goatskin drum beating, cowbell shaking and audience engagement says his last tour to the US inspired him to push forward.

“Immediately following my last trip to Atlanta, I had the honor of going to the Ritz Theater in Jacksonville, Florida where I saw the exhibition of the Weldon Johnson brothers who wrote ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’,” he said. “Their mother was the daughter of a Bahamian education who has a school named in his honor. To see their place in history, to touch their piano where they composed those songs and to know that they are sons of The Bahamas gave me the motivation to continue pushing my craft and culture to the world.”

Stileet will be at the Atlanta Caribbean Carnival’s main event at historic 4th Ward Park on Saturday, May 23, 2015. He is also slated to do a few media rounds and Caribbean club appearances.
