Freeport, The Bahamas - The newly reformed Grand Bahama Entertainers Musicians and Artists Association (G.B.E.M.A.A.) will host its first monthly social and jam this evening at the Grand Bahama Tennis and Racquet Club in their attempt to engender a spirit of camaraderie amongst artists, entertainers and
musicians of all types. "It's an effort to bring us together for the common
cause of the betterment of our industry and those that work in and
would like to work in it," said Nat Cambridge, President. "Further the event will help us collect information and
pictures that will be used to create bios of individual artists and
groups/bands for the GBEMAA booklet."
The new booklet, at the request of the
GBPA, MOGB, MOT, GBPB and hoteliers island-wide, will catalogue
entertainers and artists and their skill sets and affiliations. It will be means by which vendors can identify artists and
entertainers when the need arises for certain skills and talents. They
will be able to contact the GBEMAA and engage these persons and groups within the organizational structure and security of the GBEMAA.
"Our monthly event is an opportunity for those aspiring artists and
entertainers to share their gifts with the public, industry primaries
and other artists," continued Cambridge. "It's an opportunity to get noticed by those seeking talent."
When asked how will it make a difference for the local artist, Cambridge said it offers them a chance to be visible and considered for major projects.
"It will also offer them an opportunity to hone their skills in a non-judgmental
atmosphere. It brings an aspect of structure to the arts and
entertainment community. It speaks to the hotels and vendors about our
willingness to do what is required to move our industry forward and
become more relevant," he said.
Cambridge went on to say that it will spark a process of elevating
self-respect and self-worth as artists, entertainers and musicians in
Grand Bahama, hopefully giving them a sense and attitude of unity.
The booklet will separate and categorize artists in individual, group, band
and organizational categories. Through this listing persons and
businesses, government agencies and hotels, planners and organizers of
events will be able to, at a glance, see what is available in the arts
and entertainment on Grand Bahama and, even more importantly, have an
entity that can organize and secure these skill sets and deliver dynamic
programs and presentation, making their event more enjoyable and
successful.
"The GBEMAA is not about forcing unwanted services on government or
private business. We are saying to the government, hotels, restaurants
and event coordinators that we want to work together with you to make
life easier and events more successful and to engender a spirit of
cooperative forward mobility between the practitioners of the arts and
those seeking to use our services. I look forward to the day when the
GBEMAA will be the primary and first choice when those needing arts and
entertainment services begin to look for these services," finished Cambridge. He stressed the importance that every entertainer, artist
and musician in Grand Bahama be present so they may be entered into the booklet.
