Introducing Roots and Culture Artist, Simple D

Deon Wright was born in Scott’s Pass in the parish of Clarendon on July 9th to Evelyn Morgan. She has three sisters and one brother. She goes by the name SIMPLE D but many know her as “the Peanut and Cashew Girl” when she used to sell these items to make a living. She now resides in St. Martin, on the French side of the island.

SIMPLE D is a Roots and Culture Reggae Recording Artist who began her career in the music business in 1995. Since then, she has performed on many shows, sharing several stages with artists like Lady Saw and Sizzla in Anguilla in 2007 and 2008, Fantan Mojah and I-Wayne in St. Martin and many more. Her first performance in Jamaica was in 2012 at GT Extravaganza on Christmas Day. She has also performed on Bunny Wailer’s Show at Bourbon Beach on December 29th, 2012.

Her music is all about uplifting and empowerment. SIMPLE D has an album called “It’s The Roots” which was released in 2011 on her It’s The Roots Production label. It was recorded at Harmony House and Tuff Gong Studio. It was mixed by Gary Sutherland and Executive Produced by herself, Deon Wright. The musicians used for the tracks were the Step By Step Band. The album is a roots reggae production.

SIMPLE D has recorded several tracks which has received considerable airplay in St Martin on SOS Radio and by GT Taylor on Irie FM in Jamaica. Her tracks include “No Make Dem Get You Down”, “Hardcore Juggling”, “Mama Belly”, “Mr. Gun Man” and “The Youths Them”.

SIMPLE D has recently concluded the shooting of her first music video for “The Youths Them”, directed by Terminal 4 Media. It was shot on location in parts of Brooke Valley, an inner-city section of the Duhaney Park community in Kingston, Jamaica. The video was released in July 2013 to various entertainment stations and programs across Jamaica and the Caribbean.

SIMPLE D believes in strong family values and is grateful for the support she has received over the years. She encourages all her family, friends and fans to move forward with strong faith and never give up.
