The Grand Bahama Regatta and Homecoming is set to take place at Taino Beach in Freeport from July 22nd through 24th.  The regatta committee is excited to announce that one of their headliners will be Julien Believe, creator of the Junkanoo Pop Sound and Bahamian Icon Award winner for the Most Popular Song in 2014 for his single ‘ The Caribbean Slide’.

"We are very fortunate and excited to have obtained Julien for our Homecoming," said committee chair, Chervita Campbell. "Julien represents the younger generation in our entertainment industry, and just like the music industry, we need our youth to keep the sport of sailing alive and thriving."

He will perform on Friday, July 22nd.  Lady General will also take to the stage the same night. Other headliners will be D-Mac and Veronica Bishop.

Julien Thompson, better known by his stage name ‘Julien Believe’ has taken the Caribbean music circuit by storm by being the first Bahamian artist to release singles with Beenie Man and other international superstars. Carved by his writing skills, smooth vocals, high energy and charismatic performances, Julien used that momentum to launch a solo career, quickly becoming an accomplished Bahamian solo artist and songwriter who has created the new wave of music, the new sound of the Bahamas called Junkanoo Pop. An eclectic mix of island rhythms fused with pop music, the Junkanoo Pop sound has been heard across the Caribbean and the United States, most recently hitting the Miss World stage in Sanya, China.

This ultimately led to the induction of the Caribbean Slide Project, where fans across the world were asked to submit videos via YouTube imitating the moves in the Caribbean Slide video. Julien continued to capture the recognition and support off ans beyond his local shores, earning him the 2015 Cacique Award nomination for Song of the Year and the Bahamian Icon Award nomination for the Most Popular Song of 2015. The imperturbable and ardent performer, and a true believer in‘music from the heart’ continues to break down barriers and shift the paradigm for music in the Bahamas. Julien’s hit single ‘Live and Wine’ featuring international soca artist Bunji Garlin is the most played song in 2015 on Bahamian radio.

Teaming up with 9-time Grammy Award winner John Legend has catapulted Julien’s gift as a singer-songwriter to the next level. Being able to join creative forces with John Legend has paved the way for Julien’s hits like “Caribbean Slide” and “Winner”.

Julien’s experiences have inspired him to be ambitious, enterprising and motivated no matter the odds. He believes in being bold, brave and determined to be whatever you dream.

Through the creation of what he calls the Believe Project, Julien has stayed connected to the youth throughout the Bahamas, ensuring he spreads his mantra of perseverance and self-confidence by encouraging others to always think BIG. He is a musical powerhouse who continues to stimulate music as we know it, and the hearts of all of those who are moved by it.
