Bahamian filmmaker, Travolta Cooper, who is becoming known more recently for his production of the weekly film review series called, #TheCinemas is riding high after finding out that his documentary film about Sir Lynden Pindling, "The Black Moses" has solidified a distribution deal which will put it into theaters in the USA. The film will open in Los Angeles and New York on October 10th. “‘The Black Moses’ is getting a theatrical run for an entire week, and the success of that week determines whether or not it plays for another week, and so forth and so on,” Travolta told the Nassau Guardian.

The film screened earlier this year at Cannes Film Festival (where the deal was made) and features the velvet voice of Golden Globe nominated Dennis Haysbert.

Very excited about this step in his career Travolta told the Tribune, “We did not want to enter a lot of festivals because many movies get lost in film festival culture today and never see the light of distribution. This was also key to marketing ‘The Black Moses’, which needs a sense of mystery as it goes into the market. In essence, the less people know about the film, the better. The goal was always world distribution, and after closing the Bahamas International Film Festival that is really all we sought. In fact, we got inquiries from distributors even after BIFF. We ended up narrowing it down to three that expressed interest at Cannes and in the end we went with Diversity Entertainment, which is a distributor out of the US. ‘The Black Moses’ is their first film and represents the type of risky movies they wanted to represent. Diversity also had the better plan for our local investors,” he told Tribune Arts and Entertainment."

Pindling, regarded as the "Father of the Nation" in The Bahamas led it to independence in 1973 and served as Prime Minister of The Bahamas from 1969 to 1992. He was leader of the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) from 1965 to 1997 when he resigned from public life. He died in 2000.

"The Black Moses" features commentary from widow Dame Marguerite Pindling; American minister and civil rights activist Jesse Jackson, American politician, diplomat, activist and pastor Andrew Young; Sir Sidney Poitier; former South African President Thabo Mbeki (for Nelson Mandela); former Canadian PM Brian Mulroney; Former Jamaican PM PJ Patterson, musician Wyclef Jean; and many other international luminaries.

Director Travolta wrote on his IMDB page, "Was L.O Pindling, first black Prime Minister of The Bahamas, one of history's greatest national Liberators, or was he one of history's greatest national Drug Dealers? The Black Moses takes a looks at the popular folk 'moses mythology' as it was manifested through the life and times of Sir Lynden Pindling. It follows L.O Pindling as he sets on a course to bring about social, political, and economic revolution to the British Bahama Islands."

On October 10th, the film will open in The Bahamas at Galleria Cinemas in Nassau.
