Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival officially launched on Grand Bahama on Friday November 28th with the unveiling of "The Grand Life" costume line from The Grand Bahama Cultural Carnival Company. The high energy launch party took place in The Count Basie Square in the Port Lucaya Marketplace. Among the hundreds in attendance was Prime Minister Perry Christie, Minister of Tourism Hon. Obie Wilchcombe, Minister for Grand Bahama Hon. Dr. Michael Darville, Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival Executives, invited guests, residents and visitors to the island. The crowd enjoyed live performances and a spectacular costume presentation. The theme of the Grand Bahama Band is "The Grand Life" and the costumes celebrate the majesty of the island paying homage to the days when Freeport was known as "the magic city."
