Family Guardian Insurance Agency along with the Cancer Society of Grand Bahama have joined forces again to host the 4th Annual Hope Ball to raise cancer awareness on the island of Grand Bahama.  The ball will be held under the distinguished patronage of Rt. Honorable Perry G. Christie and his wife, Bernadette Christie. Pat Ferguson, Chairperson for the Cancer Society Hope Ball (CSHB) promises that the Ball will be like no other.

“New to the event this year will be a display of portraits by 14 cancer survivors that will depict their life story of cancer survival. These portraits will be on display at the Family Guardian office in the upcoming weeks as well as on the night of the Ball.”

The theme this year is “Life is Beautiful, Live Life, Celebrate! It’s a Brand New Day.”

“It’s a Brand New Day” has been added this year to the theme. According to Oswald Ellis, member of the CSHB, “It’s a Brand New Day” emphasizes the fact that cancer survivors must change their mode of thinking, not to fold up or give up but continue to fight. “ Don’t just give up because you discover that you are ill today because there is always a tomorrow,” he said.

Ellis promises that the night will be quite entertaining as the Police Band will once again perform, along with The Upper Cut Band, a first-time act at the Ball. “The event is for a good cause and is all about celebrating life,” said Ellis.

The Committee plans to introduce a few new concepts to the event this year, along with the candlelight vigil for persons battling the dreaded disease or for persons lost to the illness. The candlelight event will take place at the Hope Ball and the committee invites the general public to participate. According to Kelly Russell, Co-Chair of the Hope Ball Committee, interested persons are asked to purchase the candles prior to the event but candles will also be available for purchase on the night of the event.

“During the ball the candles will be lit. It is a beautiful sight to see. Persons need not be in attendance to purchase a candle, but candles will be lit at the event in memory of loved ones lost or cancer survivors,” said Russell.

Family Guardian has been on board with the Hope Ball since its inception. According to John Hepburn, Financial Services Agency Manager at Family Guardian, “it is indeed a privilege and a pleasure for the committee to name the ball itself after the Family Guardian franchise. Cancer affects the entire Bahamas and we are happy to be a part of this event.  On behalf of the entire staff of Family Guardian we applaud the Cancer Society and we are with them one hundred percent. This is our fourth year partnering with them and it will not be our last,” said Hepburn.

Clifford Bowe, District Manager of Family Guardian added, “Family Guardian is sensitive to the needs of the community and we are very proud that our company is able to partner with the Grand Bahama Cancer Society to pull off an event like this. To have the prime minister and his wife attend this event will bring notoriety to the fact that persons survive cancer and that cancer is prevalent and we (Family Guardian) are doing our part to help persons who are suffering from this disease.”

The event is slated for October 18, 2014 at the Grand Lucayan Resort with cocktails at 7:00 p.m. and dinner being served at 8:00 p.m. Door prizes will be awarded to selected persons in attendance. The committee urges the entire community of Grand Bahama to come and support the cause.
