A Wrinkle In Time Be A Warrior An adventure that spans from the imagination to the ends of the universe with a message of positivity that slightly obscures the point of the original children's classic. A young girl, her younger brother and a school mate must go on a journey across the universe with the help of three celestial beings to find her missing father. As they travel to worlds beyond their comprehension, the young girl must learn to embrace her flaws & harness the strength inside herself to defeat the evil that awaits. Meg Murry is a young girl dealing with the disappearance of her father and self esteem issues, who is given the opportunity to save her father by tessering to the planets he accidentally transported himself to. Charles Wallace Murry is Meg’s genius little brother who is the first to meet the three celestial beings, Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who & Mrs. Which, responsible for their quest. Calvin O’Keefe is a classmate of Meg’s with hidden talents & a troubled home life, who accompanies the Murry children on their adventure through the tesseract to new planets. Red is an incarnation of the diabolical evil known as the IT who wants to spread its negative energy across the universe to Earth from its current location on the planet Camazotz. A Wrinkle In Time is a magical journey of imagination that is not afraid of its message to believe in yourself. I found the special effects ambitious and a delight to behold on screen with an artistic flourish sure to inspire younger viewers to flights of fancy. Storm Reid shows promise in her performance but still has to work on getting her charisma across in a way that makes even an unlikable character relatable to the audience. Ava DuVernay directs an impressive production which shows that her strength as a film maker currently lies in personal stories rather than fantasy epics. Having read the book by Madeleine L'Engle, I am somewhat disappointed by the movie’s focus on one message from the literature over the other messages but I do see why that message was spotlighted. This movie brought to mind such films as Return To Oz, Tomorrowland, The Neverending Story, Labyrinth and What Dreams May Come. I rate this movie a rating of 3 out of 5. P.S.
