Den of Thieves Dirty Jobs. Dirty Cops. A notorious crew of bank robbers are looking to pull off the ultimate heist of cash about to be taken out of circulation that would set them up for life. A rule breaking division of law enforcement is looking to bring them to justice, but their questionable ways of getting them may make them worse than the crooks. Nicholas “Big Dick” O’Brien is the a corrupt LA sheriff going through a divorce who is obsessed with bringing down a certain crew of crooks he believes is led by Ray Merrimen. Levi Enson Levoux is part of Ray Merrimen’s crew who is depending on their next score to keep his wife and daughter in the comfortable lifestyle they have become accustomed to. Donnie Wilson is a bartender at a local bar where both law enforcement professionals and crooks frequent, who is the getaway driver of Ray Merrimen’s crew on their new heist. Ray Merrimen is a marine veteran who leads a crew of robbers on successful robberies and is now making plans to rob money about to be destroyed from the Federal Reserve Bank in L.A. Den Of Thieves is a movie that thinks it is a much better movie than it actually is because it copied scenes from movies that were made by much more talented people. This movie is what happens when someone watches a good action movie and attempts to make that movie but with louder guns and bigger explosions while forgetting to include the wit and logic that made the action plausible in the first place. The cast is totally wasted in this film as we have the likes of Gerard Butler, Pablo Schreiber, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and even Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson playing characters that are caricatures of roles they have all performed in better productions. Christian Gudegast’s directing debut is a mess with a script that he should have rewritten a couple more times before bringing its contents to an audience on the big screen. This is like watching a made for cable crime drama with a bigger budget that reminds you of better literary works such as Robin Hood and his Merry Men as it falls short of what it is even aspiring to be out of pure creative laziness. This movie is a dude bro power trip flick for abusive men and the women who love them which mistakes dumb luck for detective work and blind ‘roid rage aggression for some sort of modern honorable nobility. Here are some better choices of movies from this genre worth watching instead of this film: Heat, Sicario, Snatch, Inside Man, The Usual Suspects, The Town, Inception, Ocean’s Eleven, The Italian Job & Baby Driver.
