Always Use Condiments...

A misplaced collection of food embark on an adventure back to their rightful places on the shelves before the customers arrive for a big sale. One of the perishable pals embarks on a personal journey through the aisles of the massive supermarket to uncover the truth of their existence.

Frank is a sausage in a packet of Fancy Dogs hot dogs, but when he falls out of his bag in an attempt to save a suicidal condiment he begins to question the reason for existing. Brenda Bunson is a hot dog bun from a packet of Glamour Buns who fell out of her shopping cart trying to save her boyfriend, Frank, in a freak accident that leaves her on a mission to get back to her aisle. Firewater is a wise bottle of liquor who is the leader of the non-perishables and keeps a secret about The Great Beyond that could shift the amiable climate of Shopwell Grocery Store. Douche is a feminine hygiene product seeking vengeance on Frank for his broken nozzle due to the shopping cart accident and will go through anyone to get at him.

Sausage Party is a unique entry to the CGI-animated film landscape as being squarely aimed at adults. THIS MOVIE IS NOT FOR KIDS. This film is a fun parody of the Disney/Pixar brand of film making with an enthusiasm for the profane that is exceptional. The celebrity voices are able to bring the crazy animated grocery store items showcased in this film to life in an unexpected way. Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan do a fantastic job of bringing this strange new world to the grown up audience ready to receive it. This movie is definitely better than the 2012 animated monstrosity Foodfight! but it does share a similar aesthetic to the Tales from the Darkside episode ‘Love Hungry.’ The surprising thing about this interesting motion picture is that it goes deeper than its raunchy jokes but only skims the surface of the potential issues it could have mined. I rate this movie a rating of 3 out of 5.
