Kiss Your Ice Goodbye...
A saber tooth squirrel’s epic pursuit of an elusive acorn leads him to a downed UFO that sets off a chain reaction of cosmic events that threaten his home planet. To save themselves from the looming peril, a herd comprised of different animals must embark on an adventure that will lead them to new exotic lands.
Scrat is a saber tooth squirrel who, in his attempt to bury an acorn, has found himself in an alien spacecraft which he uses to accidentally cause a group of asteroids to head toward Earth. Buck is a swashbuckling one-eyed weasel who has discovered an ancient stone pillar that tells of a coming catastrophe that could wipe out all life on the planet if not somehow averted. Shangri Llama is a yoga-loving llama who also happens to be the leader of a group of animals living inside of an asteroid that had fallen to the planet which they call Geotopia. Gavin is a dromaeosaur who is the father of a son & a daughter and after swearing revenge on Buck for returning a dinosaur egg they had stolen, has concocted a plan for only his family to survive the catastrophe.
Ice Age: Collision Course is the fifth installment in the franchise and proof that the people behind the camera have run out of ideas and are now all about the cash grab. This new entry is unoriginal and not very funny which is a true crime due to goodwill the previous films in the series has garnered. The voice cast is wasted in this movie and even though it is admirable of those who have been with the series from the start to return, I feel sad for the new cast members joining this franchise that is a shadow of its former self. Mike Thurmeier & Galen T. Chu are behind the wheel of this car crash of an animated motion picture and it is troubling to think that there are more movies like this being planned. This movie may appeal to the very young but anyone in the double digits when it comes to age will probably be fighting the urge to sleep during this movie’s 94 minute running time.
I rate this movie a 2 out of 5.
P.S.
There is an annoyingly unfunny mid-credit scene that just shows how over-rated the Scrat character and his acorn obsession has become.
