Predator - An action movie classic firmly in the science fiction thriller genre.

It Came For The Thrill Of The Hunt. It Picked The Wrong Man To Hunt.

The leader of a team of military special forces operatives is sent with them on a covert mission to rescue another group which was sent to assist in a nefarious government plan in the jungles of a foreign country. While there he encounters a former military buddy who is now working with a government organization to squelch a joint effort of foreign and local armies operating in the area. After the elite team dispatches the entrenched armed force, they soon find themselves being picked off by a camouflaged opponent with weapons not of this world.

Major Alan ‘Dutch’ Schaefer is the leader of an elite squad of commandos sent to Central America to save a team of soldiers believed to be captured by an army of local guerrilla fighters working with European mercenaries. Al Dillon is an operative of the C.I.A. who served in the military with Dutch and is now on a covert government mission. Anna Gonsalves is a guerrilla fighter of the local army who has been captured by the squad for information on any other military operations happening in the area. The Predator is an alien combatant with advanced technology looking to test himself against The Earth’s best.

Predator is an action movie that is unapologetic as it revels in violence that is practically operatic in its execution. The stunt-work shown onscreen is impressive with a sense of urgency that envelopes the viewer in a visceral fight to the death against an unknowable foe. Arnold Schwarzenegger owns this film all the way but the support of Carl Weathers, Elpidia Carrillo, Bill Duke, Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura, Sonny Landham, Shane Black & Kevin Peter Hall as the body of the titular character must always be mentioned for their performances. John McTiernan is able to deliver a masterpiece in sci fi action film-making as his directing is able to ground the material in just enough reality to make the out-of-this-world set pieces that much more fantastic. Jim Thomas and John Thomas are responsible for a script that is capable of giving the audience all the right beats of a thriller set in a location where nature is just as dangerous as the extraterrestrial threat. Alan Silvestri gives us a score that drives every action scene to their pulse pounding limit with his orchestral choices, but I will admit certain musical flourishes were reminiscent of his Back To the Future score. This is an action film that transcends genre expectations to present its audience with true cinematic awesomeness. I rate this movie a rating of 4 & 1/2 out of 5.
