Nothing is Stranger Than Believing...

When a young boy disappears from a small town under mysterious circumstances, it is up to those who knew him to venture out of their safe little lives to a bigger and more dangerous world. As the investigation intensifies a young girl appears who might be the missing piece to the puzzle that could shed light on a government conspiracy.

Joyce Byers is a single mom trying to raise her two sons, but when the youngest of them goes missing it sets up a chain of events that could have lasting reality warping ramifications on their small town. Mike Wheeler and his older sister Nancy Wheeler are at odds due to his desire to search for his missing friend versus her growing preoccupation with a classmate who has shown interest in her. Chief Jim Hopper is the head of the local police and in charge of the official investigation into the disappearance of Will Byers, but working this case brings back memories that may hinder his progress. Eleven is a young girl who may have ties to the events surrounding the vanishing, but first she must find the courage to explore the world in a way she was never allowed to.

Stranger Things is the gift that keeps on giving with a story structure that holds your attention from the first episode to the last episode of its 8 episode season. The fact that it recreates the 80’s so well helps to give it a classic feeling and the subject matter is like watching one of the iconic Steven Spielberg films while reading one of the great Stephen King novels. I did not realize how much I missed seeing Winona Ryder’s unique style of acting from the way she glides through a scene to her inflection when emoting and the way she can make a simple cigarette such an integral part of the role she is playing. Matt and Ross Duffer aka The Duffer Brothers, do a phenomenal job of writing and directing this series they created with an excellent cast of characters. This first season rewards you for binge watching it by giving you a desire to watch it again to get any details you may have missed and leaves you longing for the premiere of season 2.

I rate this series a 5 out of 5.
