The Cloverfield Paradox B Movie schlock that rises above its genre by answering questions to bridge a film series. The Future Unleashed Everything A group of scientists on a space station orbiting a planet on the brink of war must test a device that could solve their world’s energy crisis. On testing the device they transport themselves to an alternate dimension and must find the means on the reality warped station to return to their original location. Ava Hamilton is a member of the crew on the Cloverfield Space Station who are tasked with testing the Shephard particle accelerator that could end the world’s energy crisis. Michael Hamilton is Ava’s husband who is a doctor on the planet dealing with the fallout of the particle accelerator’s activation in space and worrying about his wife’s survival. Monk Acosta is a crew member on the station who must help the crew come to terms with their current situation in another dimension while trying to figure out their next course of action. Mina Jensen is a member of the crew from the dimension they find themselves in who does not want them to leave her dimension with an operational space station & particle accelerator. The Cloverfield Paradox once referred to as God Particle in earlier drafts is a somewhat average entry to the Cloverfield franchise. This film tries to connect seamlessly to the other two films in the series and comes across uneven as it jumps between it’s story on Earth and its story on the space station. Gugu Mbatha-Raw does a superb job reacting to the situations her character is put through in a way that keeps you engaged no matter how outlandish the experience becomes. Julius Onah does an okay job directing this feature, but fails to keep the sense of wonder going from beginning to end. The script by Oren Uziel is interesting, yet it misses the mark in capturing and sustaining the excitement through out the story's length. This film is a success for the Netflix marketing team that premiered the trailer for it during Superbowl LII to let everyone know it would be available to stream right after the game which ensured heavy traffic to the site. If you liked movies such as Sphere, Event Horizon, Sunshine, Lost In Space, Supernova, Europa Report or Solaris then I think you will find something to enjoy in the events of this film. In my opinion this motion picture ranks the lowest in the film series with 10 Cloverfield Lane ranking the highest and Cloverfield in the middle, but we will see if the next film currently known as Overlord will take a top spot in the future.
