The Farewell Tour of a Beloved Superhero

His Time Has Come...

In the year 2029 a former member of an elite super powered team is a driver for hire taking care of the aging team founder as his own powers dwindle. When a mysterious women comes to him with a urgent request to shepherd a young girl being tracked by a clandestine organization, he finds himself facing off against dark forces on a path to fulfill a destiny that began in his tumultuous past.

James Howlett is the mutant known as Logan with the codename Wolverine who has been working as a limo driver to save up to buy a yacht to get away from society, but a mystery woman soon changes all that. Charles Xavier is the mutant known as Professor X who finds himself under the care of Logan and Caliban as his telepathic powers have become unstable in his old age. Laura is the young girl who was part of an experimental group of test tube made mutants called the X-23s who is on a time sensitive mission to reach a specific location away from her pursuers. Donald Pierce is the head of security for Transigen and the leader of a team of cyborgs known as the Reavers who are in pursuit of Laura and whoever helps her.

Logan is a perfect example of the maturity that a superhero film franchise can attain with the right people to nurture it. One of the things I loved about this theatrical release is that it did not shy away from the idea that being a normal person in a world of super powered beings is not ideal for the powerless and will more than likely end in death by association. Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stuart give such intense & nuanced performances that you can’t help but feel for them and Dafne Keen has a bright career ahead of her if she can keep rising to the acting talent of those around her, as she did in this film. James Mangold expertly crafts for us a version of the X-Men universe that is not lacking in seriousness & gut wrenching moments, but not devoid of hope. The experience of watching film-making this excellent will remind us of why these characters have been in out lives in some shape or form for so long. This movie surpasses its genre to not just be an outstanding comic book or superhero motion picture, but to be a superb example of modern cinema.

I rate this movie a rating of 5 out of 5.

P.S. I would advise you to arrive early as to not miss a short film (or teaser trailer) that is shown before the main movie that has ties to the X-Men universe and hints to the sequel of a certain motion picture.
