One of the taglines for this movie: Everyone’s Out To Get Them... If They Don’t Kill Each Other First. When a disgraced protection agent is called upon to secure the well being of a notorious assassin, it becomes a challenge for them not to attack each other during the time they are expected to work together. On their adventure to stay alive long enough to make it to the trial of a merciless dictator, circumstances force them to learn more about each other in ways that could lead to an unexpected understanding of their different world views. Michael Bryce is a former triple A rated executive protection agent who is trying to get back his elite status after the assassination of a high profile client which he blames his ex-girlfriend for. Darius Kincaid is a world renowned professional killer who has evidence that could convict an Eastern European leader of war crimes if he can make it to the trial to testify. Amelia Roussel is an Interpol agent tasked with getting Darius to trial when her heavily armed & armored detail is compromised by a mole forcing her to call on the talents of her ex-boyfriend. Vladislav Dukhovich is a dictator from Belarus with an army at his command with orders to kill anyone who could testify against him in a court of law. The Hitman’s Bodyguard is an action comedy adventure with charm to spare and some great extended action set pieces. This motion picture is a call back to the over the top action movies of the 90s with stars brimming with charisma putting a popular face to the well paced scenes. Samuel L Jackson and Ryan Reynolds do a great job of keeping the audience interested in their back and forth dynamic with Salma Hayek and Gary Oldman bringing in their screen presence to round out the established star power. Patrick Hughes shows us how far he has come after directing The Expendables 3 and hopefully his next film will show him branching out further. This theatrical release brings to mind The Long Kiss Goodnight, RED, 16 Blocks and even Snake Eyes to a lesser extent. I had a good time watching this one and hope there are more like this in the future. I rate this movie a rating of 3 & 1/2 out of 5.
