The Lego Ninjago Movie

One of the taglines for this movie: Find Your Inner Piece. The son of an evil warlord seeks to defeat his father with the help of his fellow ninjas while maintaining their secret identities. With the help of his uncle to guide his team through the trials they must face, he will learn the true power he has inside himself and the discipline to control it as field leader of his team.

Lloyd Garmadon is the leader of the Secret Ninja Force as the Green Ninja, the son of Lord Garmadon and the nephew of Master Wu. Misako aka Koko is Lloyd’s mother who doesn’t know he is the Green Ninja and wants him to stay away from danger after she left her husband Lord Garmadon and gave up the title Lady Iron Dragon. Master Wu is the wise mentor of the group who happens to be Lloyd’s uncle and Lord Garmadon’s brother. Lord Garmadon is the evil warlord seeking to take over the city of Ninjago as the Dark Ninja, the ex-husband of Misako and the brother of Master Wu.

The Lego Ninjago Movie is an animated film aimed at families with broad humor that anyone can laugh at but not witty enough to be memorable. The movie is a reboot of the television series with characters familiar to those who followed the series but not a continuation of the series. The voice cast does a great job of upgrading the well-tread story dynamics with fun performances that energize the dialogue. Charlie Bean, Paul Fisher & Bob Logan do a fine job of co-directing this movie but fail to capture the magic that has made the other theatrically released Lego movies such an immense pleasure to experience. I found some of the themes tackled in this movie interesting but not explored in a way that would leave a lasting impression unless you have deep Daddy issues. This was something for the kids that adults and teens will not be completely put off by like Power Rangers lite. I rate this movie a rating of 2 & 1/2 out of 5.
