Ever Wonder What Your Pets Do When You’re Not Home?

The Secret Life of Pets
is the story of a dog who has a very comfortable idiosyncratic routine going with his owner until she takes in a stray dog whom he dislikes. During the course of a extended altercation they run afoul of some mistreated and abandoned animals who vow revenge.

Max is a Jack Russell terrier who becomes threatened when his owner Katie bring home a new dog to live with them and escalating disagreements lead to drastic measures. Duke is a brown and shaggy Newfoundland who comes off reckless and inconsiderate when Katie brings him home to be Max’s new brother, but soon ends up needing his help to survive. Gidget is a white Pomeranian who lives across the street from Max and has a thing for him, but doesn’t have the courage to show it until she leads a group of pets to find him. Snowball is a white rabbit who was abandoned by his magician owner and now leads a pack of mistreated animals called The Flushed Pets who are looking to end Max and Duke.

I was not sure what to expect from this movie, but I wasn’t definitely expecting an animated rehashed mashup of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Toy Story told with talking animals. The funny thing about this movie is that the TV show ' Animals' on HBO is not as well animated, but is orders of magnitude better written than this pandering wreck. All the celebrity voices in the world couldn’t help it and the fact that it was less funny than the Minions short film that proceeded it is just so incredibly frustrating to view. I went into this movie with an open mind, and the art style, coupled with the musical score gives it a nice style, but the actual product made me fight to stay awake while watching it.

I would not recommend this movie to anyone, and I rate it a 1 out of 5.
