Transformers: Age of Extinction

This is not war, it's extinction: The fourth entry into the franchise is a misstep that squanders the will of the preceding entries.

Years after the an epic battle left a city in ruins humanity has picked up the pieces and a shadowy group has taken it upon themselves to rid the Earth of all alien robotic life. An ancient menace now has Earth in its cross-hairs as it manipulates the human contingent to further its ultimate goal of reclaiming a lost object of power. The leader of the remaining extraterrestrial robot combatants must decide if humanity is worth saving after such a betrayal.

Optimus Prime is the leader of the Autobots and must contend with the fact that after saving Earth from the Decepticon invasion the collateral damage has left him vulnerable to the factions of the government who see all alien life as a threat to the safety of the planet. Cade Yaeger is a robotics expert who is pulled into the ongoing conflict when he recovers a depowered Optimus and revives him with a hope of understanding how to make robots that work and so be able to pay for his daughters college education among other things. Harold Attinger is the C.I.A. agent in charge of the Cemetery Wind program with the main goal of eliminating all alien robotic life from the planet and the lesser goal of supplying Joshua Joyce of the KSI corporation with the robotic parts from the destroyed Transformers. Lockdown is an intergalactic bountyhunter with no ties to either the Autobots or Decepticon working for the creators of the Transformers to retrieve Optimus Prime and is willing to work with the human soldiers of Cemetery Wind to achieve this goal.

I never knew how much I would miss Shia LaBeouf's character from the series, but I really do because Mark Wahlberg's character doesn't have the energy to carry this franchise. I am probably going to go into spoiler territory with this review because there are so many things wrong with this movie that I can't help myself. I actually started checking my watch while I watched this flick because it took so long to get from one scene to the next and I am sure a lot of it looked better on paper than on film. I hate the new Decepticon transformation and I am not a fan of the design choices for the Dinobots at all. Actually, I think it would be easier to talk about what I liked in the movie... Jessica Gomes' cameo as the KSI spokes-model for Stinger commerical, T.J. Miller's Lucas Flannery character as the comic relief and Frank Welker as the voice of Galvatron. I am sure they will knock out another Transformers movie since this one made a ton of money, but if the quality doesn't get better then I don't think they should. Maybe watching the dvd extras will give some insight into why this went so wrong. I rate this flick a rating of 2 out of 5.
