The tagline for this movie: For Freedom. For Family. For The Planet. A community of rapidly evolved primates find themselves in a deadly conflict with an army of humans. When the leader of the primates suffers an unimaginable loss, he takes it upon himself to avenge his kind and kill the leader of the army of humans who attacked him. Caesar is an intelligent common chimpanzee who is the leader of a forest dwelling tribe of genetically enhanced apes forced into conflict with the leader of the military faction Alpha-Omega. Maurice is a wise and benevolent Bornean orangutan who is an advisor to Caesar and accompanies him on his quest to eliminate the leader of the military faction responsible for the deaths of many members in their tribe. Bad Ape is a common chimpanzee who lived in a zoo before the Simian Flu outbreak and lived as a hermit until meeting and joining Caesar’s tribe. The Colonel is a leader of the paramilitary organization Alpha Omega who rules with an iron fist to achieve his goal of wiping out Caesar’s tribe as a way for humans to stay dominant. War for the Planet of the Apes is one of the best third installments of a modern franchise that I have ever had the pleasure to experience. This film had so many touching moments that showcased just how human the non-human characters can be with special effects that drew you in to every scene. Andy Serkis has truly found a way to bring new depths to Caesar with a really moving performance and Woody Harrelson brings an intensity to his part that makes you wonder what he is going to do next. Matt Reeves does an excellent job directing this masterpiece in film-making from the script he co-wrote with Mark Bomback. The music by Michael Giacchino is reminiscent of Jerry Goldsmith’s score from the original 1968 Planet of the Apes and helped infuse each scene to register with emotional impact. This was storytelling at its finest and while the comparisons to Moses are undeniable, it is presented to the audience in an exhilarating manner that leaves them enlightened. I rate this motion picture a rating of 5 out of 5.
