NEWS ITEM ON HURRICANE ELSA ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY FORECAST OFFICE SECTION, AT 12PM FRIDAY 02ND JULY 2021.

...HURRICANE CONDITIONS SPREADING THROUGH THE WINDWARD ISLANDS...
AT 11 AM EDT, THE CENTER OF ELSA WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 13.4°NORTH AND LONGITUDE 61.2° WEST OR 5 MILES NORTH OF ST. VINCENT AND ABOUT 675

MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF SANTO DOMINGO DOMINICAN REPUBLIC.
ELSA IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST AT 29 MILES PER HOUR AND THIS MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS, WITH SOME DECREASE IN FORWARD SPEED EXPECTED SUNDAY NIGHT.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 75 MILES PER HOUR WITH HIGHER GUSTS. LITTLE CHANGE IN STRENGTH IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS.

RESIDENTS IN THE SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS AND THE TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS SHOULD CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS SYSTEM.
