NEWS ITEM ON TROPICAL STORM CRISTOBAL ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY, FORECAST OFFICE SECTION AT NOON EDT, SATURDAY 6TH JUNE 2020.

...CRISTOBAL CONTINUES MOVING NORTHWARD ACROSS THE SOUTH CENTRAL  GULF OF MEXICO...

AT 11 AM EDT, THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM CRISTOBAL WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 24.2┬░NORTH AND LONGITUDE 90.1┬░ WEST, OR ABOUT 345 MILES SOUTH OF THE MOUTH OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER. 

CRISTOBAL IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTH NEAR 12 MPH AND THIS GENERAL MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT DAY OR SO FOLLOWED BY A GRADUAL TURN TOWARD THE NORTH-NORTHWEST.  ON THE FORECAST TRACK, THE CENTER OF CRISTOBAL WILL MOVE NORTHWARD OVER THE CENTRAL GULF OF MEXICO TODAY AND TONIGHT AND WILL BE NEAR THE NORTHERN GULF OF MEXICO COAST ON SUNDAY. 

 

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED ARE NEAR 50 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. SLOW STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST UNTIL LANDFALL OCCURS ON THE NORTHERN GULF COAST. WEAKENING WILL BEGIN ONCE CRISTOBAL MOVES INLAND LATE SUNDAY AND MONDAY.

 

CRISTOBAL POSES NO THREAT TO THE BAHAMAS.
