All Clear Given for The Bahamas for Tropical Storm Kate

ALERT #8 ON TROPICAL STORM KATE ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY, MONDAY 9TH NOVEMBER, 2015 AT 8 PM EST.

…TROPICAL STORM KATE CONTINUES TO MOVE AWAY FROM THE BAHAMAS…   

THE ALL CLEAR HAS NOW BEEN GIVEN FOR THE BAHAMAS.

AN ALL CLEAR MEANS THAT ALL TROPICAL STORM WARNINGS HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED FOR THE ENTIRE BAHAMAS.

AT 7 PM EST THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM KATE WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 26.7 DEGREES NORTH AND LONGITUDE 76.0 DEGREES WEST OR ABOUT 60 MILES EAST-NORTHEAST OF MARSH HARBOUR, ABACO; OR ABOUT 80 MILES NORTHEAST OF SPANISH WELLS, ELEUTHERA; OR ABOUT 124 MILES NORTHEAST OF NASSAU, NEW PROVIDENCE.

TROPICAL STORM KATE IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTH-NORTHWEST NEAR 15 MPH AND A TURN TOWARD THE NORTH IS EXPECTED TONIGHT, FOLLOWED BY A FASTER NORTHEASTWARD MOTION ON TUESDAY. ON THIS FORECAST TRACK KATE WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE AWAY FROM THE BAHAMAS.

REPORTS FROM A NOAA RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT INDICATE THAT KATE’S MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS HAVE INCREASED TO NEAR 50 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. SOME ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT DAY OR TWO.

 

TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 90 MILES, MAINLY TO THE EAST OF THE CENTRE.

SMALL CRAFT OPERATORS THROUGHOUT THE BAHAMAS SHOULD REMAIN IN PORT AS LARGE SWELLS AND BATTERING WAVES WILL CONTINUE TO AFFECT THE BAHAMAS DURING THE NEXT FEW DAYS. PLEASE REFER TO OUR LATEST MARINE FORECASTS FOR GREATER DETAILS FOR YOUR AREA.

THIS IS WILL BE THE FINAL ALERT ON TROPICAL STORM KATE ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY.

THE DEPARTMENT WILL CONTINUE TO GIVE INFORMATION ON KATE VIA NEWS ITEMS. THE NEXT NEW ITEM WILL BE ISSUED AT 11 PM EST TONIGHT.
