The hottest temperature on record for July is 96.8°F and that occurred in 2007 and the all-time hottest temperature since records were kept was 97.7°F and that record temperature was recorded in June 1998... The reasons for the warmer temperatures over The Bahamas are: 1) Weak pressure patterns over us which would normally route these warm temperatures away from us but this high pressure system has been stationed over us for a long time period. Then 2) The most significant factor in this equation is the unusually warm air mass being advected over The Bahamas from the southern Caribbean Sea bringing with it unusually moist but warmer temperatures over The Bahamas...instead of the normal NE'ly to E'ly trade winds which tends to be a bit 'cooler.' The warm oceans or NE'ly to E'ly trades tend to act as a temperature 'regulator' to the warm air passing over the oceans. Those of you working in the sun today please be safe and protect yourself and stay hydrated because the heat index will vary between 102°F-105°F.

Some of the highest maximum temperatures for the year were recorded this week at LPIA--Protect yourself out there in the hot sun and be safe!!
