NEWS ITEM ON HURRICANE NICOLE ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY FORECAST OFFICE SECTION, AT 6AM SUNDAY 16TH OCTOBER 2016.

… HURRICANE NICOLE GENERATING LARGE SWELLS IN THE ATLANTIC …

AT 5:00AM EDT, THE CENTER OF HURRICANE NICOLE WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 39.2°NORTH AND LONGITUDE 47.7° WEST OR ABOUT 585 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF CAPE RACE NEWFOUNDLAND.

NICOLE IS MOVING TOWARD THE EAST AT 6 MPH, AND THIS MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TODAY. A TURN TO THE NORTHEAST WITH AN INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED IS EXPECTED ON MONDAY.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 85 MILES PER HOUR (MPH) WITH HIGHER GUSTS. SOME WEAKENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS, BUT NICOLE IS EXPECTED TO MAINTAIN HURRICANE STRENGTH THROUGH MONDAY.
