Severe weather warning for Abaco and The Berry Islands

The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Abaco and the Berry Islands from 1am EDT until 3am EDT Thursday 25th May 2017.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Abaco and the Berry Islands and its adjacent waters.

At 12:50am observation, lightning detector, radar and satellite imagery show cluster/line of thunderstorms associated with a cold front in the vicinity of Northern Florida moving towards the warning area.

Some of these thunderstorms will be severe at times causing strong gusty winds, dangerous lightning, heavy downpours, hail and possible waterspout or tornadic activity.

Boaters in the warning area should seek safe harbour and residents in the warning area should stay indoors and away from windows when conditions worsen. Residents should not seek shelter under trees or in water as these can become lightning conductors.
