NASSAU, The Bahamas The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning with effect from 3:15pm until 5:15 pm Wednesday, May 6, 2015.

A severe weather warning is in effect for Cat Island and its adjacent waters.

At 03:10pm radar and satellite pictures indicated a line of thunderstorms across Cat Island. The system is moving slowly north, northeastward.

Some of these thunderstorms will be severe at times causing strong gusty winds, dangerous lightning, heavy downpours, hail and possible waterspout or tornadic activity. Localized flooding could occur in low lying and flood prone areas.

Residents are being asked to remain vigilant and to seek refuge indoors upon seeing any funnel clouds or if weather conditions worsen.

Residents should not seek shelter under trees or in water, as these can become lightning conductors.
