The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning from 2:30pm EDT until 5:00 pm Tuesday 25th August, 2015.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for New Providence, North Andros, the Berry Islands, Bimini, the Abacos and their adjacent waters.

At 2:30pm observation, and satellite imagery show a broad line of heavy showers and thunderstorms over the fore-mentioned islands associated with a surface to mid-level trough.

Some of these thunderstorms will be severe at times causing strong gusty winds, dangerous lightning, heavy downpours and flooding in low-lying areas, hail and possible waterspout or tornado activity.

Boaters in the warning area should seek safe harbour and residents in the warning area should stay indoors and away from windows when conditions worsen. Residents should not seek shelter under trees or in water as these can become lightning conductors
