Nassau, The Bahamas - The Bahamas Department of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning from until 6:00 pm Saturday, April 19, 2014.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in now in effect for central and south Abaco, the Berry Islands, New Providence and their adjacent waters.

The previous warning for East Grand Bahama has been discontinued.

At 3:25pm observation, radar and satellite imagery show a cluster of strong thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rainfall associated with a pre-frontal trough in the vicinity of the northwest bahamas, moving rapidly toward the northeast.

Some of these thunderstorms will be severe at times causing strong gusty winds, dangerous lightning, heavy downpours, hail and possible waterspout or tornadic activity.

Boaters in the warning area should seek safe harbour and residents in the warning area should stay indoors and away from windows when conditions worsen. Residents should not seek shelter under trees or in water as these can become lightning conductors.
