NEWS ITEM ON TROPICAL STORM FLORENCE ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY FORECAST OFFICE SECTION, AT 6AM SUNDAY 09TH SEPTEMBER 2018.

… FLORENCE EXPECTED TO BECOME A HURRICANE TODAY…

AT 5:00AM EDT, THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM FLORENCE WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 24.5°NORTH AND LONGITUDE 55.8° WEST OR ABOUT 765 MILES SOUTHEAST OF BERMUDA OR 640 MILES NORTHEAST OF THE NORTHERN LEEWARD ISLANDS.

TROPICAL STORM FLORENCE IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST AT 6 MPH, AND THIS GENERAL MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TODAY.  A WEST-NORTHWESTWARD MOTION WITH AN INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED IS EXPECTED BY MONDAY, AND THAT MOTION IS FORECAST TO CONTINUE THROUGH MID-WEEK.  ON THE FORECAST TRACK, THE CENTER OF FLORENCE WILL MOVE OVER THE SOUTHWESTERN ATLANTIC OCEAN BETWEEN BERMUDA AND THE BAHAMAS TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY, AND APPROACH THE SOUTHEASTERN U.S. COAST ON THURSDAY.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 70 MILES PER HOUR (MPH) WITH HIGHER GUSTS.  FLORENCE IS EXPECTED TO BECOME A HURRICANE TODAY AND RAPID INTENSIFICATION IS LIKELY TO BEGIN BY TONIGHT.  FLORENCE IS FORECAST TO BECOME A MAJOR HURRICANE ON MONDAY.

…OUTER BANDS OF HELENE MOVING ACROSS THE SOUTHERNMOST CABO VERDE ISLANDS…

AT 5:00AM EDT, THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM HELENE WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 13.2°NORTH AND LONGITUDE 24.0° WEST OR ABOUT 115 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF THE SOUTHERNMOST CABO VERDE ISLANDS.

TROPICAL STORM HELENE IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST AT 14 MPH, AND THIS MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGH TODAY.  A TURN TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST IS FORECAST TO OCCUR BY MONDAY.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS HAVE INCREASED TO NEAR 65 MILES PER HOUR (MPH) WITH HIGHER GUSTS.  ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS, AND HELENE IS EXPECTED TO BECOME A HURRICANE LATER TODAY.

… ISAAC EXPECTED TO STRENGTHEN DURING THE NEXT FEW DAYS…

AT 5:00AM EDT, THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM ISAAC WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 14.5°NORTH AND LONGITUDE 38.1° WEST OR ABOUT 1540 MILES EAST OF THE WINDWARD ISLANDS.

TROPICAL STORM ISAAC IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST AT 9 MPH. A WESTWARD MOTION WITH AN INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED IS EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT FEW DAYS.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS REMAIN NEAR 50 MILES PER HOUR (MPH) WITH HIGHER GUSTS.  STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT FEW DAYS, AND ISAAC IS EXPECTED TO BECOME A HURRICANE BY MONDAY.
